Sello’s love for his dog stretched to his very last cent, and then 15 kilometres further. He would do anything to see his companion wagging his tail again.<\/h2>\n

Free State, South Africa (28 October 2025)<\/em> \u2013 Loving a pet is one of the greatest gifts<\/a> we can experience in life.<\/p>\n

They become family. Shadows that follow us around. Companions that lead with pure, unconditional love. When they leave us, grief lands a blow that only someone who has lost a loved one will know.<\/p>\n

This week, Virginia SPCA in the Free State shared<\/a> a rescue story that reminded us of this great love in action. It\u2019s about a man named Sello, and his dog, Option.<\/p>\n

The two are inseparable. Wherever Sello goes, his loyal companion stays faithfully at his side. Sadly, last week, while Sello was cleaning his yard, a speeding car hit Option.<\/p>\n

Sello immediately reached out to every animal shelter he could find, but no one could help him. His heart broke. Seeing his dog in such pain was unimaginably difficult. But he refused to give up. With the little money he had left, he bought airtime to give their last hope a call, and they answered.<\/p>\n

The Free State\u2019s Virginia SPCA agreed to take Option in, as long as he was prepared to meet them.<\/p>\n

He didn\u2019t hesitate.<\/p>\n

Sello walked 15 kilometres, with his injured dog wrapped up in his arms, to meet the team on the road outside Odendaalsrus,<\/p>\n

\u201cCarrying nothing but love and hope for his dog. This is what true devotion looks like,\u201d the SPCA shared.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Option is now in the SPCA\u2019s care, and they\u2019re doing their best to provide the urgent treatment needed to save Option and send him back home to his best friend. But they can\u2019t do it without help.<\/p>\n
