Watch Capetonians try to teach Joburgers how to “soften” their accent and the results are hilarious
South Africa (13 March 2026) – If you’ve ever spent time in both Johannesburg and Cape Town, you’ve probably noticed something beyond the scenery, and that’s the accents.
That’s exactly the moment content creator Ally Damon tapped into with a playful video comparing how Capetonians and Joburgers pronounce certain names and words.
In the clip, Damon jokingly “teaches” Joburgers how people in Cape Town might say things a little differently. A name like Mike suddenly sounds closer to Mark, while Brian might come across as Bron or Ron, depending on how the vowels land.
If you’ve made friends in both cities, chances are you’ve noticed it before.
At the end of the day, whether you’re saying Mike or Mark, Brian or Bron, it’s all part of the fun of living in a country where even names get a little twist depending on which city you’re in.
