When passion meets opportunity! Thanks to the prestigious Bryan Montgomery Bursary, Hope Msibi’s culinary dreams are turning into reality.

 

Johannesburg, South Africa (30 March 2026) – We all have dreams for the future. For Hope Msibi, that dream is to complete her culinary training and become a professional chef with a keen interest in product development within the food industry. It is a goal that feels much closer to reality now that she has been awarded the 2026 Bryan Montgomery Bursary.

Valued at R35,000, the bursary is a joint initiative between Montgomery Africa and the South African Chefs Association (SA Chefs). It provides vital financial support for tuition to aspiring chefs at accredited institutions. Because the fund is reserved for students who demonstrate exceptional potential and a deep commitment to the craft, Hope –now in her third year– shone as the perfect candidate.

For Hope, the bursary represents a turning point.

“It means I can focus fully on my studies,” she says.

“It takes a lot of the financial pressure off my family and myself, and gives me the opportunity to pursue what I love.”

Her mother, Botle Msibi, who attended the award presentation, spoke candidly about the impact of the bursary on their family.

“This is a blessing… a gift. Culinary training is expensive, and as a family, we have felt that pressure. This support means so much. It lifts a weight off us,” she said.

Currently in her third year of the professional chef programme at Capsicum Culinary Studio, Hope has already begun shaping her future ambitions, with a particular interest in product development within the food industry.

Commenting on the award, Chef Tommie Hurter, Education Director of SA Chefs, said the bursary reflects the industry’s responsibility to invest in its future.

“The Bryan Montgomery Bursary Fund is about recognising potential and removing barriers. Hope represents the kind of talent our industry needs: committed, passionate and forward-thinking. Through this partnership, we are able to support young chefs in taking the next step in their journey.”

For Hope, the funding is more than financial relief. It’s an opportunity to fully pursue her culinary ambitions and we can’t wait to see what she’ll stir up next!
