From a story that united a country to a book that gives back, Bronwyn Laird is showing how even the hardest moments can become something that helps others.

Johannesburg, South Africa (25 March 2026) – Eight years later, the story of baby Eden still lives in the hearts of South Africans… but this time, it’s being told in a way we’ve never experienced before.

We recently welcomed Bronwyn Laird back onto Good Things with Brent Lindeque, revisiting a moment that once gripped the entire country. The podcast touches on those days we all remember… the fear, the waiting, the miracle of Eden being found. But what stood out most in our conversation wasn’t just the past… it was everything that came after.

Bronwyn has written a book. Finding Your Eden is not a retelling of headlines. It’s not just the story South Africa followed in real time. It’s the story behind the story… the one that unfolded long after the cameras moved on and the news cycle shifted. It’s deeply personal, incredibly honest, and rooted in a perspective that only someone who has lived through the unimaginable can share.

Back when Bronwyn first joined me in 2018, she said something that has stayed with me ever since:

“We’ve seen miracles happen and prayers answered.

We cannot allow what 6 individuals, 5 of whom we have never even met, what they chose to do, to affect how we see the world, how we evaluate relationships going forward or how we live our lives.

Hate just isn’t in our vocabulary. Hate changes nothing but love changes everything. Love wins.”

At the time, those words felt powerful. Now, reading her book, you realise they were also a promise… a decision about how her family would move forward.

Finding Your Eden unpacks that decision. It explores the complexity of trauma, the weight of public attention, the moments of rebuilding, and the intentional choice to lean into love when it would be easier to hold onto anger. It’s not just about what happened in May 2018, it’s about what it takes to keep going afterwards… as a parent, as a family, and as a human being.

Every single cent from the book, priced at R200 and available here, is going to Dare-2-Care. It turns an already powerful story into something that continues to give back, creating impact far beyond the pages.

The podcast offers a window into that journey, but the book is where Bronwyn truly opens the door.

In May 2018, an entire nation waited anxiously for news about a missing baby from Alberton. Eight years later, Bronwyn Laird joins ‘Good Things with Brent Lindeque’ again to share how that terrifying chapter turned into a story of hope, healing and love.

Johannesburg, South Africa (18 March 2026) – Eight years ago, South Africa held its breath. Parents refreshed their phones, communities shared posts at lightning speed and strangers whispered prayers for a tiny baby they had never met. It was a moment when the country collectively leaned forward, hoping against hope for the ending everyone was desperate to hear.

On the 2nd of May 2018, the Pink Ladies organisation for Missing Children in South Africa issued a kidnapped child alert after it was alleged that a domestic worker had taken a baby named Eden for a walk from the family home in Brackendowns, Alberton.

Eden had been tied to her back with a light blue blanket.

She never returned.

The story gripped the nation almost instantly. Minutes turned into hours, hours turned into days, and South Africans across the country found themselves emotionally invested in a story that felt far too close to home. Parents hugged their children a little tighter, timelines filled with messages of support and an entire country hoped for a miracle.

And then four days later… that miracle arrived.

Baby Eden was found and reunited with his family. It was good news that travelled just as fast as the heartbreak had days earlier. Relief swept across the country, and the story restored something powerful in the national spirit: the reminder that hope still exists, even in moments that feel impossibly dark.

Later that same year, Eden’s mom, Bronwyn Laird, joined me in studio on the Good Things Guy podcast to talk about the experience and the emotional whirlwind her family had been through. What she shared that day stayed with many of us long after the microphones were switched off.

“We’ve seen miracles happen and prayers answered,” Bronwyn said at the time.

“We cannot allow what 6 individuals, 5 of whom we have never even met – what they chose to do – to affect how we see the world, how we evaluate relationships going forward or how we live our lives.

Hate just isn’t in our vocabulary. Hate changes nothing but love changes everything. Love wins.”

Now, eight years later, Bronwyn joins me again on this week’s episode of ‘Good Things with Brent Lindeque‘. This time the conversation is about the past but also about the incredible journey that followed. Bronwyn has written a book about the entire ordeal, sharing the raw, human experience of those terrifying days and the powerful lessons that came afterwards. In a full-circle moment, the Good Things Guy podcast and our original conversation even form part of that story.

While the chapter that began in 2018 started with fear and uncertainty, the pages that followed are filled with healing, growth and a family that chose love over bitterness.

Chris Lomas joined me in studio to talk about Hope4’s global impact, its growing work in South Africa and the belief that lasting change only happens when dignity and community are placed at the centre of every solution.

Johannesburg, South Africa (28 January 2026) – Hope is a word we use often, but this week’s episode of Good Things with Brent Lindeque explores what it looks like when hope is backed by real action, accountability and a deep respect for human dignity.

Chris Lomas is the founder and CEO of Hope4, and after connecting on LinkedIn, we jumped onto a Zoom call to talk about the work they have been doing around the world. Somewhere halfway through that conversation, I stopped him and said, “This can’t just be a Zoom. You have to come into studio”.

Some stories deserve more time, more space and a proper microphone and Hope4 is one of them.

On this week’s poddie, Chris joins me to unpack the incredible impact Hope4 has had internationally and, excitingly, right here in South Africa too. Guided by compassion and a deep respect for human dignity, Hope4 works in communities affected by poverty, human trafficking, conflict and natural disasters, offering both immediate relief and long-term, sustainable solutions that help people move from crisis to resilience.

What stood out for me is how grounded their approach is. Hope4 believes that every person deserves dignity, security and a real opportunity to build a stable life, and they back that belief with transparency, strong local partnerships and community-driven action.

As Chris explains, it is never just about aid, it is about empowerment, trust and lasting change.

There is also a very special announcement in this episode. Hope4 is heading to Kilimanjaro, turning a tough climb into a powerful platform for hope, awareness and impact, and if you know anything about me, you know that mountain already has a special place in my heart.

This conversation is full of heart, purpose and perspective. Watch it below:

For over a decade, Good Things Guy has celebrated helpers, heroes and healers… but now, there’s a place built specifically for them. The Helpers is live, and it’s ready to connect kindness to action.

South Africa (14 January 2026) – A decade ago, Good Things Guy started with one simple idea… that if we focused on what was good, we could change what we felt and ultimately change what we did. That by sharing stories of helpers, heroes, and everyday kindness, we could remind South Africans that hope isn’t something we wait for… it’s something we build.

But behind every hopeful story we share, there are thousands more happening in the shadows… stories that never reach the public because the people living them are too busy surviving. And for years, our inbox has been a front-row seat to that reality. Messages from people who aren’t looking for attention or a headline… they’re looking for help. Real help. Urgent help. Help that can’t wait until “next week”.

That’s why this week’s episode of ‘Good Things with Brent Lindeque‘ is more than just another episode.

It’s a new chapter.

This week, we are launching something incredibly special… something that has been in the hearts of the Good Things Guy team for years, something that was born out of need, built out of love and shaped by South Africans who never stopped showing up for each other.

On this week’s show, the incredible Good Things Guy editor, Tyler Leigh Vivier, joins me in studio as we officially launch The Helpers (and yes, it is live right now).

The Helpers is South Africa’s new centralised, user-driven charity directory. It is a platform designed to connect people who need help with organisations that can provide it… and to connect those who want to help with the causes that matter most to them. It’s practical, it’s searchable, and it’s built for speed, because when someone is in crisis, they don’t have time to scroll through endless Facebook posts or hope the right person sees their message. They need a place they can trust. A place that says, “Start here.”

Powered by the Good Things Guy team and created with the help of the amazing Druff Interactive team, The Helpers was born from something very real… and if you’ve been part of our community for a while, you’ll know exactly what I mean.

During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, our inboxes were flooded, not just with stories of resilience and hope, but with hundreds… and then thousands… of messages from South Africans who needed help urgently. We read messages from people needing food parcels and shelter, families desperate to escape abuse, animal lovers trying to rescue strays with nowhere else to turn. The need was overwhelming then… and if we’re being honest… it’s more overwhelming now.

So, in the middle of that chaos, Tyler did what Tyler always does. She didn’t panic. She didn’t look away. She just got to work.

She created a “Charity” section on Good Things Guy, listing trusted organisations people could turn to. It was never meant to be a big thing… it was just meant to be useful. It was meant to make it easier for someone to find help without having to beg for it.

But that section grew. And grew. And grew.

And so did the need.

As Tyler says, “People weren’t just asking for a story… they were asking where to go next.”

So we built something bigger… because South Africa deserves it

In 2025, as Good Things Guy celebrated its 10-year birthday, we made a decision. We weren’t going to just keep sharing stories about helpers… we were going to create a tool for helpers.

We decided to build something bigger. Something better. Something that could genuinely change lives.

And that something is The Helpers.

It’s a growing directory of charitable organisations across South Africa, built so that whether you need help or want to help, you can find what you’re looking for… quickly, safely, and with confidence.

You can search by area, which means if you’re looking for help near you in places like Johannesburg, Bloemfontein or Cape Town, you can find organisations in your community and around the country. You can also search by cause, which means whether your heart beats for gender-based violence support, education, cancer support, animal welfare, food security, shelter, or any other urgent need… you can find the right place to direct your support.

It’s for people who need help.

It’s for people who want to help.

And it’s for South Africans who still believe in the power of showing up for each other.

The Helpers is an extension of Good Things Guy, powered by the same team who have been sharing South Africa’s good news for over a decade, but this platform is not about us.

It’s about you… the helpers, the heroes, the healers and the warriors of hope.

We believe in a better South Africa. And we believe this is how we build it… not with big speeches, but with real connections, real support and real action.

The Helpers is live right now… and it’s only just the beginning.

*We asked 50 charities to register as a “soft-launch” to test the site. But we are now open for any and all charities, organisations and individuals to add their voice – for free – to this growing, helping directory.

When Jacqui Jorge was hijacked at gunpoint in Johannesburg, fear could have swallowed her whole. Instead, calm took over and strangers stepped forward to help her through.

Johannesburg, South Africa (28 September 2025) – Crime is a reality in South Africa, but even in the darkest moments, extraordinary light can break through. For paediatric occupational therapist Jacqui Jorge, a terrifying car hijacking turned into something far more powerful… a reminder of human kindness, resilience and the helpers who step forward when they’re needed most.

On the 23rd of September 2025, Jacqui was forced off the highway onto London Road when traffic was blocked. What followed was the kind of nightmare we all fear. She was held up at gunpoint, pulled into her own car and surrounded by four men demanding her belongings.

Instead of breaking down, Jacqui did something remarkable. She prayed aloud for protection and says that she felt an immediate sense of calm.

“The driver had heard my prayer. They asked for my phone and passcode and bank cards. They were distressed and loud and impatient. I told them I was calm and that they could calm down too in order to hear what I told them.”

Her calmness shifted the atmosphere, and in the end, the driver made a choice that changed everything… they left her and her car unharmed.

What happened next is what Jacqui remembers most: the kindness of strangers.

The Alexandra community rallied around her. Onlookers who saw the men run away came to check on her, offering their phones so she could call her husband. Another driver, who had witnessed the ordeal, followed at a safe distance to ensure she was safe and then escorted her to the police station. The detectives who received her at the station treated her with compassion and relief, glad to see she had made it out alive.

“Their generosity and kindness together with that of the detectives at the police station was not lost on me,” Jacqui explained.

Jacqui has since focused on her healing, leaning on her skills as a TRE (Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises) provider and craniosacral therapist to process the trauma through bodywork, prayer and meditation. But more than anything, she has chosen gratitude – not only for her safety but for the strangers who became her helpers that day. And more so, for the man who chose to not harm her.

“I have a deep knowing that this man, with an opportunity in his life, would make a different choice, and so this is my intention for him: for the universe or God to send him a ‘coincidence’ and opportunity to make a different choice. Perhaps this is unconditional love or forgiveness. I’m not sure, but it feels true and real.”

Her experience, though frightening, has given her a gift… a deeper understanding of how healing is possible, even after trauma and how the kindness of strangers can change the trajectory of a story.

“I’m of course grateful for the outcome and so sensitive to those who don’t have such an outcome… I am 100% convinced that even if my outcome was different that I was still fully supported and not alone.  I will continue to allow my body to recover and release the trauma of the experience. But I will also continue to hold gratitude for the people who helped me along the way, the support and love I have received and the gift this has given me in extending my skill in understanding the complexity of our body and how to heal and release by listening to the body’s communication.”

Her hope now is simple but profound: that sharing her journey can help others who are walking the same road towards closure, healing and light after darkness.

Wilson Tauro believes South Africa is one of the most remarkable countries in the world… and he’s proving it by helping build a school in rural SA this October.

Johannesburg, South Africa (27 August 2025) – Travel connects us. It brings us closer to each other, it opens up new worlds, and sometimes, it gives us the chance to give back in ways that matter most. This week on Good Things with Brent Lindeque, I had the absolute pleasure of sitting down with Wilson Tauro, the Country Manager for Air France KLM, to talk about just that… travel, South Africa, and the power of purpose-driven tourism.

Wilson is not just passionate about flying people across the world; he’s passionate about South Africa itself. He spoke with so much warmth about our country, our people, our culture, and our endless potential as a global travel destination.

“South Africa is one of the most beautiful countries on earth. The world should see it, and we should keep celebrating it,” Wilson shared.

But our conversation didn’t stop at flights and destinations. We spoke about something bigger. In October, I’ll be joining Wilson and a group of South Africans on an incredible journey… not across the skies but into rural South Africa, where we’ll be helping to build a school.

For Wilson, this is what travel is all about. Not just visiting places but leaving them better than when you arrived.

This story is a good thing because it’s a reminder that tourism can be more than sightseeing. It can be a force for change. It can create jobs, empower communities, and give kids in rural villages the opportunity to dream bigger because they have a school to learn in. And the fact that global players like Air France KLM are rolling up their sleeves alongside everyday South Africans? That’s massive.

You can watch the full podcast episode below, where we chat about travel, about hope, about building futures and about how each of us can be part of something bigger than ourselves. At its heart, this is a story about connection. Between countries, between people and between purpose and passion. And if you ask me, that’s exactly what good things are all about.

That one time, Brett Lotriet Best went viral after asking Khalid Shawwa to marry him… with a little help from Sir Ian McKellen.

Global (11 August 2025) – Eleven years ago, my friend Brett Lotriet Best pulled off one of the greatest marriage proposals the world has ever seen. Well, yes, I’m absolutely biased because Brett is a friend… but also, this proposal had Sir Ian McKellen in it. As in Gandalf. As in Magneto. As in “You shall not pass!” And it popped up on my Facebook memories last week, so obviously, I asked Brett if I could share it again.

He said yes. Much like Khalid did. But I’m getting ahead of myself.

Brett’s partner, Khalid Shawwa, is a massive Star Trek fan. We’re talking Captain Jean-Luc Picard obsessed (Patrick Stewart, if you’re wondering). So Brett decided to do a proposal inspired by those famous Love Actually cue cards. But with a twist.

He wrote out his story on a series of signs, ending with: “So I searched the galaxy for Patrick Stewart… and finally asked his best friend for help!”

Patrick Stewart wasn’t available but his real-life bestie was. You know, just Sir Ian McKellen!!!!!

Cut to Sir Ian on camera, delivering the most charming, cheeky message, “Khalid, I’ve got bad news for you. Well, good news as well. But Patrick Stewart is married. I married him… so he’s not available. The good news is Brett is available. So… think it over, do the right thing.”

If you’re a Star Trek fan and Gandalf just name-dropped you, you’d probably drop everything too.

The video ends with Brett holding the final sign: Will you marry me? followed by, I want to explore the galaxy with you. And that was it… the deal was done.

Khalid saw the video on his phone while sitting at a red light on the way home from work (don’t worry, he pulled over before watching). He rewatched it. And again. And then playfully texted Brett something along the lines of “I almost died”.

But when he got home, the first words out of his mouth were a very real, very happy “Yes!”

When Brett posted the video back in August 2014, it went properly viral. Media all over the world picked it up, social media exploded, and strangers in the comments were crying, laughing, and cheering them on.

One wrote: “I am smiling and crying at the same time. Beautiful.” Another: “May you both live a long and happy life together.” And more than a few declared it one of the greatest proposals they’d ever seen.

More than a decade has passed, and these two are still together, still happy, still proving that the best adventures are the ones you share. And this week, when the memory resurfaced, it brought back every smile, every goosebump and every happy tear from that day.

So, to Brett and Khalid, and to Sir Ian for lending a little wizard magic, thanks for reminding us that love, creativity and a sense of humour will always be a winning combination.

This week, we’re spotlighting courage on wheels… the SARZA volunteers who step into danger so others can make it home safely. With Budget Insurance, good things come to good South Africans.

Johannesburg, South Africa (30 July 2025) – South Africa is full of people who quietly give their time, energy and expertise to make the world a little kinder… a little safer. And this week on “Good Things with Brent Lindeque”, we had the honour of chatting to a group who quite literally drive towards danger to help others. The incredible volunteers behind Search and Rescue South Africa, or SARZA.

SARZA isn’t your typical emergency service. These are volunteer 4×4 owners who have turned their vehicles (and their weekends) into lifelines. With regional teams based in 6 of our 9 provinces, SARZA works closely with the likes of EMS, Disaster Management, SAPS, the Air Force, NSRI, K9 teams and the Mountain Club’s search and rescue crews. It’s a nationwide network of everyday people doing extraordinary things.

“Each year, SARZA gets over 200 calls for assistance,” they shared with us during the interview. “And in more than half of those cases, our volunteers are mobilised, leaving their families, often in the dead of night, to head into the unknown, all because someone, somewhere needs help.”

From rugged cliffs to remote bush, flood zones to earthquake-rattled cities, SARZA steps in when it counts, offering everything from search and rescue to logistics, communications and transport in the most challenging conditions imaginable.

But what makes this week’s episode even more special is that it forms part of our Budget Insurance x Good Things Guy partnership… a celebration of the unsung heroes across South Africa. Through this partnership, you get to nominate the individuals, charities or organisations who are changing lives in big and small ways… and we get to share their stories with the world, while giving them a bit of love and spotlight too.

Budget Insurance believes in backing the helpers. Known for offering simple, affordable cover that protects what matters, they’ve teamed up with us because they understand something really important: with Budget, good things come to good South Africans.

So here’s your moment to make a difference: watch the episode, meet the remarkable team at SARZA, and let us know who you think we should speak to next. Drop a name in the comments or email us at info@goodthingsguy.com because there are so many people doing good things, and together, we can help them shine.
