London Pulse shares a video introducing SPAR Proteas Kamogelo Maseko as she is set to shine in London while embracing the challenge of defending the Pulse crown.

London, England (23 February 2026) – Kamogelo Maseko is swapping the Gauteng courts for London as she joins reigning Netball Super League champions, London Pulse, for the 2026 season. London Pulse shared a video of the attacker on their social media pages and you’re immediately drawn in by her personality, explaining how she started playing the game.

Known for her attacking flair and versatility at wing attack and goal attack, Kamogelo brings a wealth of experience from her time with the SPAR Proteas and her successful stint with Gauteng Jaguars in South Africa’s premier netball league.

“Growing up, I grew up with a lot of boys, so initially, I wanted to play soccer. But when I got to primary school, all the girls were playing netball, and I was like, okay. So that’s how I started.”

Her journey through various positions (both in defender and attack) reflects a player who is not afraid to adapt and take risks.

“I lied about my position in high school and said I was a goal attack. And surprisingly, I killed it.”

Joining London Pulse as the defending champions adds its own challenge, but she welcomes it.

“Coming into Pulse and knowing that we are the defending champions, it obviously adds a lot of pressure. But I always say pressure is a privilege.”

Fans at home in South Africa have been a constant source of support throughout her rise.

“I know how much love and support and just words of encouragement you guys have for me.”

With her international experience, making her SPAR Proteas debut at 18, competing in the 2025 Vitality Netball Nations Cup in the UK and finishing the year with a Netball Africa Cup winner’s medal Kamogelo brings confidence to a London Pulse team looking to defend its crown.

From loose balls to loud cheers, the South Africans responded the only way they know how, by winning and clinching the SPAR Challenge.

Johannesburg, South Africa (02 February 2026) – South Africa’s SPAR Proteas delivered a statement performance at a buzzing Ellis Park on Sunday, overpowering England 65–50 to seal a 2–1 series victory in the SPAR Challenge international netball Test series.

After a tough loss the previous day, the response from the home side was immediate.

The Proteas came out firing in a high-tempo opening quarter, setting the tone early with relentless pressure and sharp execution across the court.

Everyone was talking about Sanmarie Visser (who was named Player of the series) and goalkeeper Juanita van Tonder, who were instrumental, forcing crucial turnovers inside the circle.

The midcourt was also clicking smoothly, and the shooters were calm and accurate, surging South Africa to a 16–9 lead by the end of the first quarter.

Coach Jenny van Dyk kept faith with her starting seven in the second stanza, and even when centre Tarle Mathe was forced off with an injury, replaced by Refiloe Nketsa, the Proteas never lost their rhythm.

In front of a near-capacity crowd treated to slick passing, spectacular intercepts and confident shooting, South Africa continued to build their advantage.

Captain Khanyisa Chawane praised the team’s response following Saturday’s defeat.

“It was amazing. I think I just liked the hunger. You could see each and every person on that court wanted to win. We went for every ball. Even if a ball was thrown in another direction, we changed our bodies. Every loose ball we were on it. And you could tell from that effort that everyone wanted to take this. I loved the energy and from there just building from that to the win.”

Coach Jenny van Dyk echoed that sentiment, describing the performance as clinical and crediting the players for executing the game plan with discipline and belief.

“Today was a clinical performance and just a team that responded so well to the plan and to what we knew we had to get done out there today. So, very proud of the players and the team.”

For coach Jenny van Dyk and assistant coach Zanele Mdodana, the series achieved its broader objectives: valuable game time, testing combinations, and building depth. All that while still ending on a high with a series win.

Returning to Ellis Park for the first time since 2024, the SPAR Proteas held off England’s Vitality Roses 52-48, with a milestone moment for Nicola Smith.

Johannesburg, South Africa (30 January 2026) – The SPAR Proteas made a confident start to their SPAR Challenge netball series against England’s Vitality Roses on Thursday night, claiming a 52-48 win in front of a home crowd.

The opening minutes saw a few nerves from the South Africans, returning to Ellis Park for the first time since 2024, but the team quickly found their rhythm, producing some slick attacking moves and an impressive defence from Sanmarie Visser and Juanita van Tonder. By the end of the first quarter, South Africa had turned the deficit around to lead 16-12. The hosts maintained their intensity through the second quarter, holding a four-goal advantage at halftime.

A standout moment came with Nicola Smith, who earned her 50th Test cap, stepping into the goalkeeper position in the third quarter and maintaining intense defensive pressure. Nicola, who made her international debut against Malawi in 2020, was pivotal in helping her side hold on. The third quarter also saw Kamogelo Maseko taking over at goal attack.

In the fourth quarter, the Proteas regained full control, that ultimately saw them claim a hard fought 52-48 victory.

Head Coach Jenny van Dyk praised her team’s composure.

“We had great momentum in that first quarter. In the second quarter, we stayed in it, and we knew after half-time that they were going to come out with a full counterplan.”

The challenge continues and the Vitality Roses will definitely be fighting back as the two sides meet again with the second Test scheduled for Saturday, 31 January at 5pm, followed by the third on Sunday, 1 February at 4pm, promising more high-intensity netball action.

Learning South African words might not be part of the official training, but the Australian Men’s netball squad gave it their best shot.

Johannesburg, South Africa (29 January 2026) – Before taking to the court for the SPAR Challenge at Ellis Park Indoor Arena, the Australian Kelpies got a crash course in South African slang, and their guesses had everyone laughing.

Words like “Yebo”, “Chommie”, “Awe”, “Lekker”, “Eish”, “Braai”, “Haikhona”, and “Dintsang” might sound simple to a local, but for the visitors from Down Under, they proved to be a whole new language.

Their guesses ranged from “like you’re away from home” to “demon”, leaving fans in the comments laughing.

While the Kelpies are here to test their skills against the Proteas Men in the three-match curtain-raiser series, it’s clear that learning a little local flair is also on the agenda. Whether they nailed the meanings or not, their efforts highlight the fun side of international sport.

The Proteas have locked in their 15 players ahead of a three-match Test series at Ellis Park, as momentum builds before the Commonwealth Games.

Johannesburg, South Africa (21 January 2026) – The SPAR Proteas are riding a wave of confidence as they prepare to welcome one of the world’s toughest opponents to home soil.

The SPAR Challenge Netball Series will be played at the Ellis Park Indoor Arena on 29 January, 31 January and 1 February 2026. Home fans expected to bring the noise as the Proteas look to take on the Vitality Roses.

Following an intense training camp held in Johannesburg over the weekend, head coach Jenny van Dyk has locked in her 15-player squad for the upcoming three-match Test series against the Vitality Roses. The Proteas assembled on Friday for two days of high-energy sessions, with players pushing hard for selection as the countdown to the series officially began.

With the Proteas building toward the future while still keeping their eyes firmly on the present, Coach Jenny made it clear that every selection is part of a much bigger picture.

“We are in the process of building a team that will compete at the World Cup, that is how far ahead we are looking. It is therefore important for us to create depth within the squad. Selecting a team is never an easy exercise because every invited player brings their best on the day, which gives us a positive selection headache.”

Coach Jenny was not flying solo in that locker room.

“Let me also express my gratitude to the team I work with in the selection process; their unwavering support is something I do not take for granted. I believe we have chosen the best fifteen players for the occasion and the moment.”

The series comes just in time as preparation for the Commonwealth Games that take place from 23 July to 02 August 2026.

“The series against the Vitality Roses is our last international competition before the Commonwealth Games, so we need to make it count. It will allow us to refine what is working and address areas where we are lacking.”

The timing couldn’t be better for a marquee series at home. The Proteas arrive with momentum after being crowned African champions at the Africa Netball Cup in Lilongwe, a campaign that reaffirmed their dominance on the continent and reignited belief ahead of a busy international calendar.

The upcoming clash also carries a familiar edge. The last time South Africa and England met, in 2025, the series ended deadlocked with one win apiece, setting the stage for another tightly contested battle.

Selected players for the series

  • Khanyisa Chawane (c),
  • Kyla Dames,
  • Jamie Golob (née van Wyk),
  • Thulisile Maduna,
  • Kamogelo Maseko,
  • Tarle Mathe,
  • Owethu Ngubane,
  • Refiloe Nketsa,
  • Nozipho Ntshangase,
  • Nicola Smith,
  • Rolene Streutker,
  • Elmeré van der Berg,

After a dominant Africa Netball Cup 2025 showing, Shiko Mokaila is set to lead the men’s national team into an exciting new era, bringing fresh energy as they prepare for the SPAR Challenge against the Australian Kelpies.

South Africa (19 January 2026) – South African men’s netball is stepping into its next chapter, and it’s doing so with a familiar face at the helm.

Former national team captain Shiko Mokaila has been appointed Head Coach of the South African Men’s National Netball Team on a four-year contract, marking a significant moment for a programme that has steadily been building momentum.

His appointment comes at a time when men’s netball in South Africa is enjoying a strong upward curve. The national side closed out 2025 on a high after a dominant showing at the Africa Netball Cup in December, where South Africa once again underlined its growing depth. Shiko’s arrival is seen as a continuation of that progress, rather than a reset.

After a thorough hunt for the right coach, Netball South Africa has officially named Shiko Mokaila as the new man in charge. He takes over from Jabulani Vilane, who steered the team through a stellar Africa Netball Cup campaign in December, and he won’t be flying solo as Siyabonga Khuzwayo will be by his side as assistant coach.

Netball South Africa President, Mami Diale believes they have found the right person.

“Finding the right person to lead our men’s national team from a coaching perspective was not an easy task. However, we believe we have found the right person in Shiko. He is an all-rounder and has what it takes to move the team forward. He has been a player, a team captain, coached at both junior and senior level including National Male Championships, and has been heavily involved in administration, all of these roles have better prepared him for this moment.”

For Shiko, the appointment carries deep personal meaning. He retired from playing in 2023 after the Africa Netball Cup in Botswana, bringing a 15 year career to an end.

“I am extremely happy and, at the same time, deeply humbled. I am very passionate about men’s netball, and it is an honour to lead a team that has given me so much. I am committed to giving my all, to compete, to challenge for top honours, and to win.”

His first test in charge comes quickly. The South African Men’s National squad will assemble this week for trials, ahead of the announcement of a final 15-man squad later this month. The team will then face the Australian Kelpies in a three-match curtain-raiser series during the SPAR Challenge at the Ellis Park Indoor Arena.

South African men’s netball appears firmly focused on building consistency and belief as the countdown to the 2028 Men’s Netball World Cup continues.

Fresh off a strong finish in Malawi, South Africa’s men lead the charge while the SPAR Proteas Women prepare for a highly anticipated series against England.

South Africa (07 January 2026) – South African netball heads into the new year with confidence and big match-ups on the horizon, following a strong end to 2025. Both the Proteas Men and the SPAR Proteas Women prepare for key international assignments with an exciting international schedule ahead.

The tone will be set by the Proteas Men, who open the year with the SPAR Challenge Pre-Match Series against the Australian Kelpies. It’s a fixture that promises intensity, skill and a proper early test against international opposition, giving local fans a glimpse of what lies ahead for the men’s game.

That confidence hasn’t come out of nowhere. The men ended 2025 on a high at the Africa Netball Cup in Lilongwe, Malawi, where they delivered a composed and clinical performance in the final against Zimbabwe. From the opening whistle, South Africa controlled the tempo. And they hope it won’t be any different against Australia.

While the men take centre stage early, the SPAR Proteas Women are also gearing up for a significant start to the year. They will kick off their 2026 campaign with a SPAR Challenge three-Test series against England’s Vitality Roses, set to take place at the Ellis Park Indoor Arena in Johannesburg.

The series marks England’s return to South African soil for the first time since 2023, when the two sides met during the Quad Series in Cape Town, before locking horns again later that year at the Netball World Cup, also hosted in the Mother City. Those encounters added another chapter to a growing rivalry.

The Tests will be played between 29 January and 1 February, offering the SPAR Proteas Women an early opportunity to measure themselves against one of the world’s top netball nations, while also setting the tone for a busy international year ahead.

Together, the men’s pre-match series against Australia and the women’s clash with England reflect a South Africa that’s competitive and ready to take on the challenge in 2026.

As netball continues its remarkable growth in South Africa, Mandela University’s Juanita van Tonder and Chinonso Dave were recognised as Sportswoman and Sportsman of the Year, capping a standout season.

Gqeberha, South Africa (28 October 2025) – Netball in South Africa is on an upward trajectory. From the SPAR Proteas holding their own against the world’s best, to the SPAR Baby Proteas inspiring confidence in the next generation, the sport’s future has never looked brighter. Across the country, universities and clubs have become key hubs for developing that next wave of stars. By the looks of things, Nelson Mandela University is proving to be one of the strongest breeding grounds.

That was made clear at the 2025 Madibaz Sport Awards, where netball took centre stage once again. The code not only produced both the Sportswoman and Sportsman of the Year, but also walked away with the Club of the Year and Community Engagement awards.

Netball standout Juanita van Tonder and her male counterpart Chinonso Dave capped off an exceptional season that extended well beyond university borders.

Juanita, a sports management student, earned her national colours earlier this year, representing the SPAR Proteas as goalkeeper in test series against New Zealand and Australia. Her strong form with the Nelson Mandela Bay A team at last year’s national championships also earned her a spot in the President’s squad, while she led the Eastern Cape Aloes to sixth place in South Africa’s top flight netball league, the Telkom Netball League.

“Winning this award is such a blessing and I really did not see it coming. I am truly honoured to be recognised in this way and I want to thank Mandela University for this award. I really appreciate it.”

For Chinonso Dave, an honours student in educational psychology, the recognition came as a pleasant surprise too. Having represented South Africa in a series against Zimbabwe last year and being named Nelson Mandela Bay’s best player of 2024, his leadership both on and off the court has been pivotal in growing men’s netball at the institution.

“I was definitely not expecting this but am truly grateful to Madibaz Sport for the recognition, especially in my final year. It shows that all the hard work over the last two years has paid off.”

As South African netball continues to reach new heights, the achievements of Juanita, Chinonso, and the Madibaz netball community underline the future Proteas are in motion.
