Paul Casey praises South Africa as the best LIV Golf event yet, with strong local performances and passionate fan support highlighting a successful debut and now set to return.
Johannesburg, South Africa (23 March 2026) – The inaugural LIV Golf South Africa turned Johannesburg into the centre of the golfing world, blending elite competition with a festival-like atmosphere that had fans, players, and even global stars buzzing. And now, the good news: it’s officially coming back next year.
The event delivered massive crowds, and unforgettable entertainment, with performances from the likes of Black Coffee and Calvin Harris adding to the electric atmosphere.
On the course, Bryson DeChambeau walked away with the individual title after a tense playoff victory over Jon Rahm, while his Crushers GC side edged out South Africa’s own Southern Guards GC in a nail-biting team contest.
The vibe in the crowd matched the moment, with fans welcoming Bryson rocking T-shirts reading “Lekker Braaison”.

But beyond the results, it was the emotion and appreciation from players overseas that truly captured the moment. Paul Casey, in tears, went on record to declare this as the best LIV event.
“I think everybody in SA should be so proud of what they’ve achieved here,” he said. “I’m gonna go on record…I think this is the best LIV event.”
The Englishman, clearly moved by the experience, didn’t hold back in praising both the players and the fans who brought the event to life.
“You know, Charl, Louis, Burmy, Gracie, they should be so proud. They brought this here, but the fans turned up and made it what it is. So thank you, everybody. It was an amazing event.”

Another standout moment that captured the spirit of the event came from Dean Burmester, who had the crowd buzzing. At the “Lion’s Den”, he reached into his bag, pulled out the newly released South Africa national soccer team jersey, and put it on before taking his shot.

Despite narrowly missing out on the team title, the all-South African Southern Guards GC had plenty to celebrate. Their efforts helped bring the tournament to local soil and inspired the incredible support seen throughout the weekend.
In the end, this was about more than just golf. It was about showcasing South Africa. The fans, the atmosphere, the gees!
With its return already confirmed, LIV Golf’s South African chapter is only just getting started. It’s safe to say the next one has a very high bar to meet.
