A late match-winning effort and a heartfelt team embrace made Kayla Reyneke’s standout performance one to remember as the Proteas Women edge past New Zealand.

Christchurch, New Zealand (30 March 2026) – Sometimes, it’s not just about the win, it’s about how it happens.

For Kayla Reyneke, that moment came in the most unforgettable way, as she carried the South Africa women’s national cricket team over the line in a tense finish against New Zealand in Christchurch.

With the pressure at its peak and the game hanging in the balance, she stepped up with a calmness far beyond her years. What followed was pure drama! Big hits and a finish that had everyone on their feet.

But it wasn’t just the final strike that stood out.

It was what came next.

As soon as the winning runs were secured, her teammates rushed in, surrounding her in celebration. Smiles, hugs and pure joy.

The embrace was the real highlight.

Earlier in the match, the Proteas had built a strong foundation through key partnerships, but things tightened towards the end, leaving the result to be decided in the final over.

Proteas captain Laura Wolvaardt summed it up best after the match.

“That was a bit stressful at the end there, I think it got a bit closer than it needed to be. But amazing finish from Kayla, that was some clean striking,” she said.

For Reyneke, the moment didn’t just end with the winning shot. Being named Player of the Match added another layer to an already special performance.

“At the end of the day you want to win matches for your country. To be honest I was stressing… I just needed to stay calm.”

But more than the award, more than the numbers, it’s that image of her surrounded by her teammates that will stick.
