When the petrol price hits hard, you’ve gotta get creative, and Themba Robin has just taken “fuel-efficient travel” to a hilariously new level!

Johannesburg, South Africa (06 April 2026) – Tough times are inevitable, but if there’s one thing about South Africans, it’s their ability to find humour in almost any situation, inviting everyone to join in the laughter.

Many are aware that there’s been a lot happening abroad in the political sphere, and we empathise with those severely affected by the global conflicts unfolding in our time.

Recently, South Africa has felt the impact of heightened risks in global energy markets, leading to record-high fuel prices and a shared sense of unease among us all.

But as mentioned, we manage to cope with the doom and gloom through humour. Giving us the giggles recently was Comedic Content Creator, Themba Robin, who recently posted a hilarious skit showing his creative new approach to e-hailing without the stress of needing fuel.

In the amusing video, he’s seen pushing a wheelbarrow with Uber branding and stopping to pick up his next client for their ride, who was more than happy to hop in and be pushed to their destination.

“Petrol prices got us doing what we need to do to get by,” Themba shared playfully in the post’s caption.

It was witty, relevant and had the people laughing out loud!

“Do we pay in steps?” Marilet Swanepoel hilariously asked.

“The way he’s checking the number plate before he jumps in,” observed Siobhan Noelle Roy.

“Going to build it tomorrow to pick up a wheelbarrow,” Garret Van Der Walt joked.

The post has hit over one million views on Facebook, and there’s no wonder why! Thank you for the clever solution (hopefully one we won’t have to resort to) and, most importantly, for bringing us plenty of laughs when we needed them most, Themba.

Kuhle Kooks turns the long weekend into a full-on breakdown, and it hits home, highlighting some relatable long weekend moments.

South Africa (02 April 2026) – If you’ve ever treated life like a full-on sporting event, then Kuhle Kooks is definitely your kind of commentator.

The content creator, known for turning everyday moments into hilarious pre- and post-match interviews, is back at it again. This time tackling the long-awaited Easter long weekend. And honestly, it’s the kind of analysis we didn’t know we needed.

In true fashion, the “pre-match interview” breaks down the long weekend. The different foods South African will be eating and what everyone will be getting up to.

Gone are the days when raisins did their job in the hot cross buns. Now, it’s all about the upgraded squad, and that’s the chocolate chip hot cross buns stepping in and completely taking over the starting lineup.

And that’s exactly why the video is hitting home. Social media users are loving the accuracy, with many seeing themselves backing up the new and upgraded flavour.

It’s this kind of humour that makes Kooks’ content stand out. Taking the most normal, everyday experiences and flipping them into something that feels like a press conference after a major match.

As the Easter weekend approaches, whether you’re team raisins or fully backing the chocolate upgrade, just know this is one debate that’s far from settled.

A light-hearted video of a “quick sniff” at the pump has social media users laughing and sharing their own fuel struggles.

South Africa (02 April 2026) – With fuel prices continuing to climb, South Africans are once again doing what they do best and finding humour in the struggle.

A hilarious video making the rounds on social media has perfectly captured the mood, thanks to content creator Kristy and a familiar face, petrol attendant Bheki. The skit, which was originally filmed a while back but recently reposted, still feels very much relatable. The video, first shared on TikTok back in 2022, where it racked up over a million views, has once again gone semi-viral after being reposted on Instagram. And it’s easy to see why.

In the clip, Kristy pulls up and asks for R300 worth of petrol, obviously nothing unusual there. But instead of filling up the tank, she leans in for a quick sniff and calls it a day. No fuel.

It’s funny, but it hits home. Especially for drivers who know that these days, even a small amount of petrol feels like a luxury.

Social media users didn’t hold back in the comments either, with many joining in on the joke. One user said

“You can’t even sniff petrol anymore, you can only look at it.”

Others shared how the video perfectly sums up their own reality at the pumps.

For Kristy, who is part of a passionate car community that depends heavily on fuel for events and weekend drives, the repost felt timely. And clearly, it struck a nerve.

While rising fuel costs remain a serious concern, moments like these show how humour continues to be a coping mechanism. It may not fill the tank, but it definitely makes the journey a little lighter.

The ultra-marathon champion has a new “book” coming, and fans are loving the cheeky preview.

South Africa (01 April 2026) – South African ultra-marathon star Gerda Steyn had fans doing a double-take this April Fool’s when she announced her latest “project”: a book titled Forget Running, An Autobiography.

Gerda shared a playful sneak peek of her ‘book,’ with some hilarious tips only an ultra-runner could come up with:

  • Running is overrated
  • Train for 10km, race an ultra
  • Better overtrained than undertrained
  • How to run on empty
  • Niggles are a sign of success
  • Train insane or remain the same

Pre-orders for the book are “coming soon,” but Steyn left a few empty pages, joking that her story is still very much in motion.

Fans quickly took to the comments to join in on the fun.

“Thank God for the comments because I was already sold.”

Trust that you were not the only one.

“Why does this sound like a 1 April’s story?”

They were clearly catching on, but still not 100% sure.

“Never mind the date, we know this is fake because you still have loads of races to win in the future. You’d have to update that book yearly!”

Gerda’s playful side has everyone smiling, while reminding runners and fans that the ultra-marathon champion isn’t slowing down anytime soon.

Safe to say, she almost had us there. So maybe keep your guard up for the rest of the day, because if Gerda can pull this off, anything is possible this April Fool’s

Instead of April Fooling anybody, we’re sharing all of YOUR good things that made us smile today!

South Africa (01 April 2026) – We’re not fooling anyone this April, and we’re fine with that. The internet has already delivered enough of that today, and we’ve gone a different route.

Our very own Good Things Guy made a valid point in a post he shared this morning. Maybe the world doesn’t need more chaos right now, but it does need more love. More of the good stuff. More of the things that make you smile without tricking you.

So instead of a prank, we started an ‘April Good News’ thread on our Facebook page, and wow, did our people show up! Our team has been scrolling through the comments all day – 99.9% of them are positive, heartwarming, and in many different little ways, prove that good things are always happening around us.

Gratitude or simply just finding the ‘light’ is one of the most powerful abilities we all possess. It has the power to lift you up, and to lift others up too.

Some of the comments we’ve read today celebrated the small things. Like sunshine, flowers, a swim in the sea, working traffic lights! Others celebrated big things – surviving cancer, buying a house, becoming an aunt or granny, fundraising goals reached, donating easter eggs to kids in hospital!

The cup really has overflowed.

We thought it would be special to share some of those comments with you here. For the full thread (because there’s MUCH more good where this came from) visit this link!

“Giving out Easter eggs today to young adults with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. They have aged out of the children’s home and now stay on a farm and are taught life and farming skills.” shares Table View Lions Club.

“Our Izzy is having her major surgery tomorrow which will change her life, and our Bella’s Blessings family continues to feel love from all over the world as we grow and support as many special needs children as we can.” shares Bella’s Blessings.

“A street I drive every day, has much congestion due to broken traffic lights (about 8 months now) And what do I see this morning? WORKING traffic lights!” shares Linda de Meillon.

“Blessed to enjoy a week of dinners around the table with both my adult kids home this week” shares Aletta Bester.

“Handed out blankets for 67 Blankets yesterday in Shakashead near Ballito. Such a Happy School! Makes my heart sing! All blankets handmade with Love for these children. From the ‘cells’ of Boksburg to the hands of waiting children, Craig View’s veterinary team just proved that justice is best served sweet!

Johannesburg, South Africa (01 April 2026) – Every year, Craig View Veterinary Clinic gets the East Rand involved in collecting thousands of Easter eggs for local orphanages, old age homes and families who could use a little extra sweetness.

This year, the road to raising 4000 Beacon boxes was paved with…scandal!

“After maintaining a dignified silence throughout 2025, Craig View can no longer hold back: we were badly let down by a major donor who pledged thousands of Easter Eggs and then failed to deliver.” the vets shared.

With a big target to hit and memories of last year’s undelivered pledges still lingering, the team decided to crack down on the crooks. Their attorneys stepped in to help handle matters as the clinic made it very clear. If you promised eggs, you’d better deliver.

“Following an urgent meeting with our local magistrate, we have been granted extraordinary permission to pursue legal recourse against those who make promises they do not keep.”

The drama reached a fever pitch when community members Jed Dale, Daleen Walters, DA Councillor Mary Goby, and Sammy Lee officially ‘surrendered’ to the SAPS. Facilitated by the sharp legal minds at Pearson Attorneys, the suspects were handed over on the charge of failing to meet the city’s soaring demand for Easter joy.

Photo Credit: Craig View Veterinary Clinic

Bail was set, and the negotiations were intense. In this courtroom, cash was no good. Only the snap of a chocolate shell and the crinkle of a colourful wrapper would secure a release.

With a ward councillor, a hair stylist and trainer, and a beauty therapist all behind bars, it was up to their supporters to raise the target and win their freedom.

“We urge the broader community, businesses, schools, and individuals to rally behind those who have stepped forward with pledges. Support them generously—because we can promise one thing with absolute certainty: justice will be served, and your favourite local shop, office, or entrepreneur might find themselves temporarily short-staffed if a cell door closes behind them.” the clinic wrote at the time.

This week, the update came in live, straight from the cells where the suspects were being held.

Because of these ‘willing criminals’ and the supporters who scrambled to pay their bail, local orphanages and old age homes are about to receive a massive boost of eggs and essentials!

“Many of you were glued to the drama!” shared Craig View afterwards. “Benoni and Boksburg community members were dramatically ‘handed over’ to SAPS by our very own Pearson attorneys. It was intense, entertaining, and a little too real for some – we even had to delete a few comments about those smooth criminals!” the vets shared.

The final, staggering tally of boxes is being kept under wraps until the Easter weekend (stay tuned). The clinic has extended a huge thank you to everyone involved.

“Our greatest thanks to Jen, Daleen, Mary & Sammy you raised the bar and the eggs so high! Thank you simply doesn’t feel enough. Your time, energy, and enthusiasm made this bail collection drive an unforgettable success. You all deserve an Oscar!” the team wrote.“To all your clients, family, friends and supporters who donated for your safety may you be blessed this Easter.”

What a happy, light-hearted reminder that even when the goal seems high, like 4000 boxes high, a little bit of creativity, a smidge of sensation, and a community that refuses to leave anyone behind can turn a ‘legal crisis’ into easter eggs for all. Yay!

Sorry, what? A seal ate your hair on Table Mountain?

Cape Town, South Africa (01 April 2026) – Imagine that. Hating your experience of Table Mountain so much, you leave a negative Google review…

The same Table Mountain that was voted one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature and stands as an ancient, 240-million-year-old icon of our landscapes. The same mountain that forms part of a floral kingdom that boasts more plant species than the entire United Kingdom…

That one?

Turns out, in the words of Shania Twain, that don’t impress me much.

Well, not us. But the Google reviewers. The people taking time out of their busy days to roast Table Mountain.

Trail runner hero Danielle Lubbe recently shared a video on social media that has gained more than 160,000 views. In it, she shares some of the – quite frankly – ridiculous complaints Negative Nancies have had about the Mother City’s most beloved mountain.

Before we go any further, we need to make one thing clear. If the reviews were regarding real concerns threatening safety or about poorly maintained trails, we’d understand. This is an entirely different story…

Courtesy of Lubbe, some of the colourful reviews left by Table Mountain visitors over the years:

“Disappointing when you get to the top. Scruff and dirty, 3 stars” Since when are mountains generally preferred smooth and clean?

“Too high and they do not sell food + a seal ate my hair, 3 stars” A seal ate your hair, on top of a high mountain, where there was no food?

“It’s a mountain, 1 star” Didn’t see that one coming.

Thousands of people across the globe save up for years just to catch a glimpse of that famous ‘tablecloth’ cloud draping over the summit, but some visitors clearly have different hopes.

Danielle’s right. You can be a world-class masterpiece, and someone will still find a reason to swipe left. One of the most beautiful landmarks on Earth can’t get a five-star review from everyone; we should probably stop worrying so much about the critics in our own lives!

A brilliant little lesson.

And hey, if you feel like doing something good, go and leave a positive review about Table Mountain on Google!

See the heartwarming moment a Cape Town school community turned the tables to celebrate their dedicated security officer on her special day!

Cape Town, South Africa (31 March 2026) – Security guards are an integral part of our communities, safeguarding our businesses, schools, and public facilities day in and day out. They keep us safe, remaining ready for whatever comes their way. For the most part, they are everyday unsung heroes – but this week, one guard was celebrated loudly, and on her birthday, too!

A video shared online by her security company shows the woman being showered with love as pupils at a Cape Town pre-preparatory school embraced her with the biggest group hug and cheers on her special day.

“She was overwhelmed with joy when the little ones rushed to her, enveloping her in hugs. They also gifted her with a birthday card. This warms our hearts! Some moments remind us why community matters so much,” the post reads.

The special moment spoke volumes about the school community’s appreciation for their security officer, who works tirelessly to ensure their safety. To them, she is more than just a staff member at the gate; she is a friendly face who greets them every morning and a reliable protector always ready to respond to a call of concern.

In an era where news is frequently dominated by division, seeing a group of children rush to embrace a woman who spends her life watching over them is a powerful testament to the impact of kindness.

The trending video struck a chord with many social media users who were touched by the children’s innocence and heartfelt appreciation for their local hero.

What a sweet reminder that kindness knows no boundaries. We hope this guard had a birthday as special as she is!

Helen Zille Goes Viral After “Snorkelling” in Joburg Pothole https://www.goodthingsguy.com/fun/helen-zille-goes-viral-after-snorkelling-in-joburg-pothole/ https://www.goodthingsguy.com/fun/helen-zille-goes-viral-after-snorkelling-in-joburg-pothole/#respond Tue, 31 Mar 2026 07:58:53 +0000 https://www.goodthingsguy.com/?p=182343

A video of Helen Zille snorkelling in a Joburg “pothole” has captured the country’s attention, blending humour, frustration and a reminder of the infrastructure challenges many face daily.

Johannesburg, South Africa (31 March 2026) – You know things are getting wild in Joburg when a “pothole” needs a snorkel more than it needs a repair team. Helen Zille broke the internet (again) this week, but not with a speech, a debate, or a policy announcement. This time, it was with a snorkel… in a massive hole filled with water, in Douglasdale.

We are not joking.

Zille took to social media yesterday to share a video of herself quite literally “snorkelling” in a water-filled hole, turning what is usually a frustrating symbol of infrastructure decay into something absurdly funny and impossible to ignore. Zille goes on to explain that a water pipe has been broken in that neighbourhood for over 3 years. And it does get fixed. But just breaks again. The water has filled what is to be believed to be a pothole, to the point that it has now created a pool… or small dam. That she decided to take a snorkel in.

This is not the first time a resident has taken a dip in a similar “pool” in Douglasedale. In 2020, a resident posted numerous photos of his escapdes in a sinkhole outside of his home.

Zille’s recent clip has been doing the rounds, sparking laughter, conversation and, importantly, shining a spotlight on the very real issues facing Johannesburg residents. The video forms part of a growing stream of content Zille has been sharing as the race to become Joburg’s next mayor heats up. From directing traffic at broken robots to highlighting litter-strewn streets and ongoing water challenges, she has been documenting the city’s struggles in a way that feels more immediate, more visual and, at times, more relatable than traditional political messaging.

But this one takes the cake… or, more accurately, the snorkel.

Social media leaned in.

“Nah. this is funny. You’re funny. I like it.”

“Our politicians are content creators now 😂😂

“At this point, we’re not fixing potholes in Johannesburg… we’re upgrading them to holiday destinations 🏖😂
Service delivery: 0 ⭐
Adventure tourism: 5 ⭐

“This is what they call going above, inside, and beneath the call of duty😂🤣my favourite show this one.”

Of course, not everyone was convinced. There were comments from people saying that no amount of humour would change their vote or sway their opinion. And that’s fair. South Africans take their politics seriously, as they should. What stood out, though, was how many people allowed themselves a moment to laugh while still acknowledging the bigger issue.

A quick Saturday snorkel in a pothole won’t fix Johannesburg’s infrastructure overnight but it has managed to get people talking again. It’s pulled attention back to problems many residents have simply learned to live with. It’s sparked conversation. And more than anything, it’s a reminder of something we do exceptionally well in this country… finding light in heavy situations, connecting through humour and keeping the conversation moving forward.

South Africans know how to laugh. Now maybe, this video will help get that pothole-dam fixed. We’ll update you if it does.

@helenzille This is one of Joburg’s many public facilities for swimming. No opening hours and no maintenance plan, yet somehow it keeps expanding… 🏊‍♀️🚧 #BelieveInJoburg ♬ original sound – Helen Zille

*Update: We have just been informed, from a resident, that the water leak was fixed! Go Helen! Please visit all the potholes in the city now.

Learners at Alberton High School swapped traditional school bags for creative alternatives, bringing their books in everything from buckets to wheelbarrows.

Johannesburg, South Africa (30 March 2026) – This is bound to bring all the laughs and creativity, too. Classrooms at Alberton High School looked a little different, but for all the good reasons.

The school’s “Anything But a School Bag” day turned an ordinary school morning into a full-on display of creativity, as learners arrived carrying their books in just about everything except a traditional school bag.

And they did not hold back!

From buckets to suitcases. It didn’t stop there. Some learners pushed the idea even further, showing up with wheelbarrows, trolleys, and even baby prams to get their books from home to class.

One learner managed to turn a tyre into a carrier. There were trays, cones, and boxes in the mix too. While the day was all about fun, there were still a few ground rules, keeping things safe, practical, and school-appropriate. But within those limits, learners had the freedom to get as creative as they wanted.

For a day, the usual routine made way for something lighter, giving learners a chance to have fun.
